My name is Grétel Malagamba Steffen I’m half French from my mother's side and half Mexican from my father’s, this cultural mix has inspired me to merge styles, colors, textures and shapes throughout my career. I love using the ethnic elements that I find when I travel, in the books I read, in the movies I watch, in the music I listen to, in art and of course in the amazing and fascinating country that is Mexico.
As well as designing, my other favorite hobby and passion is playing la Jarana to the sound of Son Jarocho this instrument is a small Mexican guitar from the region of Veracruz. I loved this collaboration with Malaquita in this project and designing clothes for women. The collaboration I have with women from diverse indigenous communities in Mexico is wonderful and very rewarding; they are great and courageous women that keep using ancestral embroidery techniques nowadays and I found their work to be amazingly beautiful and a unique piece of art! I enjoy very much the process of creating clothes, and turn dreams into reality.
My main inspiration is Folklore, with its bright colors, unusual shapes, joyful festivities, its ancestral traditions, modernity, fantasy and its natural beauty. This collection is for women who love color, who are inspired by avant-garde tyles and for those who enjoy and celebrate their vibrant lives. It is for women who want to express love, joy, elegance and that are fascinated by new fashion styles. It is ideal for anyone who wants to show their feminine and extravagant personality.
